The fifth to hold the name, and a giant of the Shōwa era whose famously chaotic life was said to be a rakugo story in itself. He had fura — an untranslatable, guileless comic presence — and a loose, improvisational delivery that made Kaen Daiko and Kogane Mochi his own.
