Profile

The great iconoclast of modern rakugo, remembered for his line that rakugo is the affirmation of human folly. He read the classics through a contemporary lens and broke away to found his own school, the Tatekawa-ryū. His rebuilt versions of the big stories — Shibahama, Shinigami — reshaped how the next generation performs them.
